While trying to build a screencast for someone I know I first had to solve the mistery which tool to use. Starting with recordMyDesktop I stumbled upon Istanbul - which is also available in debian - before building my local copy of xvidcap. In the end I came back to recordMyDesktop.

While fixing a small problem in a lab at my office my mind stumbled across the thought what I would do if I needed to find a certain logfile. This thought was initiated by a notepad of one of my colleagues who jotted down common unix file names. Those of course are rather specific to certain *nix flavours and sometimes even to distributions. So play nice with others: keep an up2date locatedb for other admins.

Single-Sign on

Ich plane, demnächst mal testweise eine Umgebung mit SSO aufzusetzen. Trickreiche Sache das. Was mir vorschwebt ist eine Kombination aus

1. Kerberos
2. LDAP
3. Radius

Vor allem Radius spielt da eigentlich eine untergeordnete Rolle. Aber so, wie ich das bisher verstanden habe, kann man LDAP als Datenbank für einen Kerberos Authentisierungsdienst einsetzen. Werde also demnächst mal in meinem Privatlabor rumsitzen und ein bißchen basteln. Apropos basteln: ich werde wohl vorher ein paar alte Kisten zusammen schrauben müssen.

Evolution und ein Palm Tungsten E

Von einem Freund habe ich mir vor einigen Wochen seinen alten Palm Tungsten E geliehen, da ich diese Dinger extrem praktisch mittlerweile finde.
